Terms of Service
Last updated · May 2026
01— The agreement
By using IOU you agree to these terms. We update them occasionally; we'll let you know if something material changes. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
02— What the app does
IOU lets you create personal promises ("IOUs") and send them to people you care about. The recipient can redeem them later. We notify you when they do.
03— Your account
You're responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your login safe. Don't impersonate other people.
04— Acceptable use
Be kind. Use IOU for personal, non-commercial promises only. No harassment, spam, or threatening content. Do not attach inappropriate, explicit, or offensive photos or voice memos to promises.
05— Your content
You own what you create, including photos, voice memos, and doodles attached to promises. By sending an IOU, you grant us a limited license to deliver it to the recipient and store it on your behalf.
06— Multi-use promises
Promises can be configured for multiple uses (e.g., "Valid twice"). Each use is tracked and subject to an optional daily cooldown. Once all uses are consumed, the promise is marked as redeemed.
07— Requests
You can request a promise from another user. Requests expire automatically after 24 hours if not accepted. The recipient can accept or decline at any time.
08— Points & rewards
Points are earned through app activity (sending, redeeming, fulfilling promises, daily logins). Points have no cash value and cannot be transferred. We reserve the right to modify the points system at any time.
09— Free trial
New users get all Pro features free for their first 3 promises. After the trial, free users are limited to 3 total promises with basic features. The trial cannot be reset or extended.
10— Subscriptions
IOU Pro is billed monthly ($4.99) or yearly ($29.99) through the App Store. Subscriptions auto-renew unless turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Pro unlocks unlimited promises, photo and voice attachments, doodle canvas, and relationship analytics.
11— Limitation of liability
IOU is provided as-is. We are not responsible for any unkept promises. Use it for the warm, low-stakes thing it is.
12— Changes to these terms
We may update these terms over time. Material changes will be announced in-app.
